Male pantyhose exists; yes.

Have you ever heard of male pantyhose?

Apparently, pantyhose isn't purely a female contraption. Some men wear pantyhose simply because they like the smooth texture it offers. Others wear it for legitimate reasons, such as to improve blood circulation in the lower half of the body and prevent chafing. The rest? Fetishists, cross-dressers and transvestites.

At first, I thought that it looked horribly wrong. Men shouldn't be wearing stockings. Imagine curly, coarse black leg hair matted onto a pair of muscular calves! It'll look like he slipped on a pair of extremely threadbare rugs onto his legs. Which is how curly leg hair looks like already, pantyhose or not. Then I realised that any man who wears pantyhose openly would probably have the decency to shave his leg hair off.

THEN I saw these pictures...

Click to see it less pixel-y! Well, if a man wishes to wear pantyhose, at least make it an in-your-face fashion statement. This one resembles snake skin. That's a pretty cool concept, if you ask me.

Hmmm, this pair of plaid-patterned pantyhose would be a nice surprise peeking out from a pair of pants, don't you think.

And cute patterned ones!

I could possibly be quite converted. Maybe pantyhose for men isn't so bad after all. Sheer, skin-toned pantyhose is just wrong. I don't even like it on women. If you're going to camouflage something, you either go all the way, or you don't try at all. Sheer pantyhose is ALWAYS visible, and it is remniscent of similarly futile efforts such as transparent plastic bra straps, which are beyond tacky. But if a man wishes to wear patterned pantyhose as a complement to his outfit, I think that's acceptable. I can certainly appreciate efforts in trying to exude a particular style or concept, be it controversial or not.

That being said, you probably can't have overly muscular calves if you want to wear patterned pantyhose. They need to be lean yet still toned. Neither can your calves be chunky and wobbly. That'd be just sick. Imagine the above snake pattern on a fat leg; it'll look as if the snake had swallowed an elephant. (throwback to The Little Prince!)

Quite a tough one to pull off, if you ask me. (And further reinforcement that fashion statements are for skinny people) Still, it'd be fun to see a man wear pantyhose. Pictures from here.

I think wearing sheer pantyhose for guys is more subtle as men in pantyhose is still not widely accepted in Singapore. I wear pantyhose under my work pants. I love the way my legs feels in pantyhose. Helps prevent leg fatigue as my job requires standing or sitting a lot.

Great to see a well balanced article on tights/pantyhose for men.

There is more on this subject on my blog: http://sheergeek.blogspot.com
